1. Purpose

This policy explains the main arrangements for deferring, suspending, or cancelling enrolment at Mosman College.

2. Student-Initiated Requests

A student may apply to defer, suspend, or cancel their enrolment. Requests must be submitted in writing and will be considered against:

  • the student's circumstances
  • any supporting evidence
  • the student's written agreement
  • the applicable course and regulatory requirements

Mosman College will acknowledge receipt of a written request and advise the student of the next steps, any further evidence required, and the decision pathway in accordance with the applicable process.

3. Compassionate or Compelling Circumstances

Mosman College may consider requests based on compassionate or compelling circumstances, such as:

  • serious illness or injury
  • bereavement or major family emergency
  • trauma or other serious personal circumstances
  • circumstances outside the student's control that materially affect study

Supporting evidence may be required.

4. Provider-Initiated Suspension or Cancellation

Mosman College may suspend or cancel a student's enrolment in serious circumstances, including:

  • misconduct or serious breach of student behaviour requirements
  • non-payment of fees
  • failure to comply with course, safety, or assessment requirements
  • provision of false or misleading information
  • other grounds permitted under the student's written agreement or applicable law

5. Notice and Opportunity to Respond

Where Mosman College proposes to suspend or cancel enrolment, the student will normally be informed in writing of:

  • the proposed action
  • the reason for the action
  • the student's right to respond
  • the student's right to access the Complaints and Appeals process

Immediate interim action may still be taken where required for safety, wellbeing, legal obligations, or serious operational reasons.

6. International Students and Reporting

For students covered by ESOS or other reporting requirements, an approved or imposed change to enrolment status may affect the student's Confirmation of Enrolment or visa position.

Mosman College will manage these matters in line with the applicable law and approved process, including any required notification or reporting obligations.

Where Mosman College proposes to suspend or cancel enrolment and the student has access to appeal rights, the change in status will be managed in accordance with the applicable process while those rights remain available, unless an exception applies for safety, serious misconduct, or another lawful reason.

7. Appeals

Students may access the Complaints and Appeals process if they wish to challenge a deferral, suspension, or cancellation decision.

Where required by law or policy, the change to enrolment status will be managed in accordance with the applicable process while appeal rights remain available.

8. Records

Mosman College keeps requests, supporting evidence, notices, decisions, appeal records, and related correspondence in accordance with its records management obligations.
