1. Purpose
Mosman College has arrangements in place to respond to critical incidents affecting students, staff, or others involved in its operations.
2. What Is a Critical Incident
A critical incident is a traumatic or serious event that causes extreme stress, fear, injury, threat, or disruption and may require an immediate institutional response. Examples may include serious accident, assault, missing person, death, natural disaster, fire, or another emergency affecting safety or wellbeing.
3. Immediate Response
In an emergency, call `000` first.
Students should then contact Mosman College as soon as practicable so the college can activate its response arrangements and provide support or referral.
4. After-Hours Contact
If a critical incident occurs outside normal business hours, students should call `000` first where emergency assistance is required and then contact Mosman College using the current emergency contact pathway provided in their orientation information, student communication pack, or controlled student handbook.
Mosman College will record the incident and coordinate follow-up support, welfare referral, and any required internal or external notifications in accordance with its approved critical incident response process.
5. Mosman College Response
Where a critical incident affects a student or staff member, Mosman College may:
- arrange immediate contact with the student or relevant emergency contact where appropriate
- coordinate internal response actions
- refer the student to medical, counselling, welfare, or emergency services
- provide information and practical support relevant to the situation
- maintain required records and notifications in line with applicable law and policy
6. Follow-Up and Support
Mosman College may provide or arrange ongoing support after a critical incident, including referral to external counselling, medical, welfare, or community services where needed.
7. Records and Review
Critical incidents are recorded and reviewed in accordance with Mosman College's records management, safety, and continuous improvement obligations.
